The Ritz Hotel

Overview, Master Planning and Restoration of the Ritz

The Barclay’s ownership of the Ritz led to considerable restoration work carried out over the period of their ownership, raising the standards back to the quality originally attained by César Ritz. The Ritz then enjoyed steady growth and is now a hotel in very high demand.

In 2006 when Blair Associates Architecture Ltd were commissioned to review extension opportunities as well as continuing the restoration of the buildings led to a series of projects, which included:

  • Master planning of the Hotel and potential new extensions

  • The Arlington Street roof extension

  • The new south wing to the Hotel

  • The extension to the gardens on Green Park

  • The full repair and restoration of the Piccadilly and Green Park façades

Whilst undertaking the review of the master plan and developing the Arlington roof extension and the new south wing, Blair Associates Architecture Ltd were commissioned for the full renovation of the Piccadilly and Green Park façades which over time was failing due to ground movement, which led to quite severe cracking of the granite and Portland stone. The renovation included four listed building submissions and an 18 month restoration programme.
